Watering Tips

Watering will vary greatly depending on the type of plant, size of plant, time of year, temperature, amount of rainfall, sunlight, type of soil and drainage. As a general rule, the best method of watering is to put the end of the garden hose at the base of the plant and turn hose on only enough so there is a slow trickle of water (there should be no run off of water). Allow hose to run at that rate for approximately 45 minutes to an hour. This allows you to water deeply to encourage downward root growth. Monitor watering needs regularly by examining the soil moisture under the mulch. If it is moist, do not water.
